Bounce or Bust? Earnings, Tariffs, and Crypto Take Center Stage
Markets face a pivotal week as stocks teeter on a technical bounce, Broadcom’s earnings loom large, and Trump’s tariff threats loom. Crypto surges with a promised U.S. reserve.
What is going on investors!
Pivotal week in the markets.
Technically many stocks are set for a bounce. I would not be surprised if you get an early rally, but the key will be if the gains can hold.
Earnings will still move on the markets, particularly Broadcom on Thursday.
The company’s conference call moved the stock when CEO Hock Tan revealed significant future demand for custom chips. Simply reiterating the demand could send shares higher.

Politics:
DISCLAIMER: I will cover politics - when it relates to the stock market. I will do so in a manner that is based on reality. I receive a ton of comments and feedback saying things like Trump is an evil dictator and Biden was corrupt.
None of that fucking matters to your Schwab account.
I respect people who want to discuss social, moral, ethical topics as it relates to politics - but to be 110% clear - the stock market reacts very little to this stuff.
In many ways, this will become one of your best resources because I don’t care about anything but cutting through the noise and making decision based on reality.
Tuesday: President Trump has established plans to (re)impose 25% tariffs on imports from Mexico and Canada, pending the outcome of additional negotiations.
A 25% tariff that is left in place for even a small period of time would be devastating for the Mexico/Canada economy. They would almost guarantee a recession. This is because:
~ 78% of Mexico exports flow into the USA
~ 76% of Canada exports flow into the USA
There’s some nuance to all this based on currency. Canada’s/Mexico’s currency could fall in value (vs USD) because of the tariffs - therefore mitigating some of the tariff impacts.
The impact on US companies would be mixed with automotive and energy companies being negatively impacted the most. Chipotle (which relies on avocados and other ingredients from Mexico) has said it would absorb the tariffs rather than raise prices.
If I was 65+ years old, on fixed income and had a modest nest egg. I’d move to the sidelines until the dust settles on this tariff stuff.
Trump can afford to play these games politically - a 65 year old with a modest nest egg can’t.
Everyone else can tactically take advantage of the volatility these events create. In fact, the younger you are - the more you should appreciate these political games.
Crypto
The Crypto markets got a huge boost when President Trump announced plans for a “US Crypto Reserve” on Sunday. This wasn’t a complete shock as it’s something he campaigned on, but I think some doubted he would actually follow through on the promise.
On Friday a “Crypto Summit” is scheduled at the White House with key figures in the Crypto community.
I would expect the hype to build through the week.
The performance of Crypto is correlated a bit to risk assets like stocks - so if Crypto can rally all week, that could be good news for stocks.
Pick Some Levels Out
Buying the “dip” is hard. That’s because the news when markets are selling off is ugly. The best thing to do is pick out price levels where you will be buying. Put those in place now so you can be prepared if markets head lower.
I’ll be back later in the week to recap the events as they unfold. Be sure to follow me across social media - I post unique content on each platform so be sure to check it out.
Appreciated as always! Much respect! Have a rad week!
Thank You Colin for taking the time to do this for those like me. I'm 63 years old and I thought I knew what I was doing. This market has one spinning. You make things very easy to comprehend. Thanks again!
